Depo-Provera and Side Effects
Do you have information on how Depo-Provera shots affect women with chronic migraines? Also, how common is weight gain for women on Depo-Provera? Is it preventable?
Migraines can be triggered by hormonal shifts and Depo is a large
hormonal shift. The effects of Depo are most likely worse, in
general, than those of birth control pills on migraines.
Weight gain is a very common side effect for Depo, and there is
no real way to get around it. If there is no compelling reason for
Depo over birth control pills, then I would choose the pills. Once
you take the shot, you are stuck with the side effects for 3 months.
