Dry Skin

The Painful Symptoms
Do you have dry skin on your elbows and heels of your feet? Do your elbows and heels crack and bleed because they are so dry? Have you tried every cream and lotion you can find but nothing seems to help? Beating severely dry skin can be difficult, but we have a few tips to help you out.

Treatment
The best treatment for severely chapped skin is to slather your skin in Vaseline or lotion and wrap these areas in cotton or wear cotton gloves while you sleep. Another option is to wrap your hands in plastic wrap or in a plastic bag while you sleep. However, cotton gloves will allow your skin to breathe better. Always keep these areas covered and well lotioned during the winter months when the air is the driest. Carry lotion with you so that the skin is never allowed to dry out. Avoid using harsh soaps or cleansers as these can also dry out your skin. It is best to use mild, moisturizing cleansers in warm, but not hot, water and to avoid taking long showers or baths during the winter. Apply lotion directly after getting out of the shower and don't towel yourself off completely as any moisturizer works best if there is a little moisture on your skin already.

If this condition persists, seek the help of a dermatologist. Stronger medicated creams may be necessary.
